Experience

Mr. Peterson’s practice has focused on construction and commercial litigation for nearly four decades.  Mr. Peterson represents owners and developers in a range of multi-million dollar construction disputes, including both residential and commercial projects.  He also represents architects and engineers in a range of matters, including lien claims, malpractice claims, and other claims.  He has handled dozens of real estate disputes, and has tried numerous complex commercial litigation trials involving member disputes, securities fraud, and breach of contract cases.

He has tried nearly 200 cases during his career, ranging from half-day bench trials to multi-week arbitrations to month-long jury trials.  For more than twenty years, he has been a faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, teaching a broad range of programs, including the National Trial Advocacy, National Session, Rocky Mountain Building Trial Skills, and others.  He is an active member of the Roster of Neutrals for the American Arbitration Association, serving as both a construction and a commercial arbitrator.  Mr. Peterson is the former co-chair of the Boulder County Bar Association Civil Litigation Section.  He has published numerous articles in The Colorado Lawyer and other legal periodicals.

Mr. Peterson has been selected for inclusion by “Best Lawyers in America” in the Construction Law category since 2007, and has also been selected as a “Super Lawyer” in the categories of Construction Litigation (since 2012) and General Litigation.  He has been AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell for more than twenty years.
