HBC is pleased to welcome Maureen Eldredge to the firm as an associate attorney. Maureen is a graduate of the University of Colorado School of Law, and the University of Rhode Island , where she received her Master’s in Marine Policy. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of the Holy Cross with a degree in Biology. Maureen joins HBC after spending two and a half years with Arnold and Porter, a large Washington D.C.-based international law firm. Maureen’s practice will emphasize business and corporate law.
Connie Eyster to teach at University of Colorado School of Law
Adding to her normally busy practice, Connie Eyster will teach the Wills and Trusts course at the Wolf Law Building at the University of Colorado School of Law this Fall. The course will cover topics such as intestate succession, capacity to execute a will, formality of will execution, nonprobate transfers, and creation and administration of trusts. Connie is looking forward to her first semester as an adjunct professor.
Bill Meyer wins domain name dispute before WIPO in Geneva
In proceedings before the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Bill Meyer successfully defended our client against a claim seeking transfer of the client’s domain name to the complainant. Bill established, and the WIPO Panel found, (a) that the complainant had no protectable trademark rights in the domain name; (b) that our client had established rights or legitimate interests in that name; and (c) that our client did not register and uses the name in bad faith. HBC Welcomes Jonathan Boonin as New Of Counsel Attorney
HBC is pleased to welcome to the firm, Jonathan Boonin, an experienced litigator. Jonathan is a graduate of Yale Law School and the University of Colorado. Jonathan joins HBC after spending six years with a large Washington D.C.-based international law firm, three years teaching at Harvard Law School and University of Colorado School of Law and four years as a partner with Boulder-based Warren & Boonin, LLP. Jonathan’s practice will continue to emphasize commercial, employment and securities litigation, and employment law and counseling.
Baine Kerr to be keynote speaker
Baine Kerr will be the keynote speaker at The Friends of the University of Colorado Libraries 14th Annual “Just Desserts” event on May 19, 2006 at 7:00pm on the 5th Floor of Norlin Library. Baine will speak on “Character and Conflict” in discussing his two novels, Wrongful Death and Harmful Intent.
Bill Meyer receives first-ever Life Member Award from ILAC
At its recent Annual Meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the International Legal Assistance Consortium (ILAC) named Bill Meyer of Hutchinson Black and Cook, LLC as its first individual Life Member for his work in promoting the rule of law throughout the world. Based in Stockholm, ILAC is a consortium of 35 multinational and national bar associations and non-governmental organizations with more than three million members, devoted to providing technical legal assistance in post-conflict situations. In making this first-ever award, Paul Hoddinott, Chairman of the ILAC Council, cited Mr. Meyer's pioneer work in developing structures for international cooperation in post-conflict situations ranging from Iraq to Liberia to Haiti.
Brad Peterson to teach NITA Building Trial Skills course
Brad Peterson will teach at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy's (NITA) 25th Annual Rocky Mountain Regional "Building Trial Skills" program to be held April 22-29, 2006. Brad will teach half of the intensive eight-day program which covers all aspects of trial preparation, witness preparation, and trial. Brad has taught numerous NITA programs for more than a decade, including the National Session, and has been accredited as a NITA faculty member.
Five HBC Lawyers Voted “Colorado Super Lawyers®”

Chris Ford wins commercial lease finance case
In February 2006, following a four-day trial handled by Chris Ford, the trial judge awarded the firm’s client, an equipment leasing company, damages in a case against an equipment lease broker, as well as declaratory relief. The case involved ownership of equipment under contract law and the Uniform Commercial Code. In issuing his 12-page ruling, the judge adopted the legal positions advocated by HBC and awarded HBC's client compensatory damages as well as its attorney's fees and litigation costs. The total award is expected to be a significant six-figure sum.
Bill Meyer elected to Board of Directors of Boulder County Bar Foundation
Bill Meyer has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Boulder County Bar Foundation. Established in 1983, the Foundation supports a variety of organizations and projects in Boulder County, including Voices for Children, Center for Persons with Disabilities, and Boulder County Legal Services.
Client Vidiom Systems Corporation Acquired by Advanced Digital Broadcast Holdings, S.A.
Vidiom Systems Corporation, a leading provider of technology solutions to the cable TV and consumer electronics industries, was represented by Hutchinson Black and Cook partners Jim Carpenter and Carla Sledge in connection with its recent acquisition by Advanced Digital Broadcast Holdings, S.A., a Swiss company and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Osmosys, Inc. The new company will remain headquartered in Broomfield with additional engineering offices in Portland, Oregon and Des Moines, Iowa and will be named Vidiom Systems, Inc.
Connie Eyster to speak at the 2006 Annual Survey of Law
Connie Eyster will be a featured speaker at the Colorado Bar Association's 2006 Annual Survey of Law to be held January 11, 2006 in Denver. Connie will present an update of important changes in Estate Planning and Probate law in Colorado.
Connie Eyster elected to HBC membership
As of January 1, 2006, Connie Eyster became Hutchinson Black and Cook, LLC’s newest Member. Connie has been with the firm since 2001 and she will continue to focus her practice on estate planning, probate and trust administration and nonprofit organizations. In addition to her extensive speaking and writing schedule, Connie found time to organize and implement the Boulder County Pro Se Probate Program, serve on the Board of Directors for the Boulder County Bar Association, as well as manage HBC’s championship co-ed softball team. When not in the office or on the softball field, Connie can be found volunteering for High Street Concerts, a community-based monthly acoustic concert series near her home in Lyons. Hutchinson Black and Cook is delighted to have Connie as a member and colleague.
