Jonathan Boonin Celebrates 10 Years with HBC

HBC partner, Jonathan Boonin, recently celebrated his 10th anniversary with the firm.  During Jonathan's 23-year career, he has focused on commercial, employment, securities and construction litigation.

HBC's Adam Chase to be Inducted into Colorado Running Hall of Fame

HBC's Adam Chase is a member of the distinguished class that will be inducted into the Colorado Running Hall of Fame on April 20.  Adam is an accomplished trail runner, marathoner, ultramarathoner, adventure racer and Ironman triathlon finisher, participating in events all over the world.  He is also a prolific writer of all things running.  He co-authored the book, "The Ultimate Guide to Trail Running" and writes for Running Times magazine where you'll find his gear reviews and feature articles.  Adam is the President of the American Trail Running Association (ATRA) and he serves as a brand ambassador for Salomon and Atlas Snow-Shoe.  HBC is extremely proud of Adam and his accomplishments - running, lawyering and otherwise!

Brad Peterson, Chris Ford, Bill Meyer, Baine Kerr, Bob Schuetze and Glen Gordon Voted Colorado Super Lawyers® for 2016

Six Hutchinson Black and Cook lawyers, Brad Peterson (Construction Litigation), Chris Ford (Plaintiff Personal Injury), Bill Meyer(Business Litigation), Baine Kerr (Plaintiff Medical Malpractice), Bob Schuetze (Plaintiff Personal Injury) and Glen Gordon (Plaintiff Personal Injury) have been voted 2016 Colorado Super Lawyers® by Thomson Reuters after a state-wide survey and independent review of the lawyers' credentials.  This year is the 11th year that Bill and Baine have been selected.  HBC is very proud to have its lawyers recognized by their peers and named Colorado Super Lawyers®.

Justin Konrad to Speak at Rocky Mountain IP Institute

HBC partner Justin Konrad will be a featured speaker at the 14th Annual Rocky Mountain Intellectual Property & Technology Institute in May 2016.  Justin will speak on Rights of Publicity, the right to control the commercial use of a person's identity, such as a person's name, image and likeness.

HBC's John Clune and Chris Ford Reach Resolution with Baylor University

HBC partners John Clune and Chris Ford have reached a satisfactory resolution with Baylor University on behalf of the victim of a 2013 sexual assault by BU football player, Sam Ukwuachu, who was later convicted of that assault.

HBC Welcomes Robert Schuetze and Glen Gordon as of counsel

HBC Welcomes Two New Members John Clune and Keith Edwards

As of January 1, 2016, John C. Clune and Keith M. Edwards became Hutchinson Black and Cook's newest members.  John will continue his nationally recognized Title IX practice, along with his work in Civil Rights and Victim Representation.  Keith's practice is focused in Commercial and General Civil Litigation.

HBC's John Clune Featured Speaker for a National Crime Victim Bar Association Webinar

HBC's John Clune was a featured speaker at the November 19 session of the webinar training series entitled "Everything a Lawyer Can Do for a Victim of Campus Sexual Assault" hosted by the National Crime Victim Bar Association.  John's topic focused on how best to represent a victim's interest in a criminal prosecution or civil claims against the offender and how best to handle retaliation claims brought by the perpetrator.

HBC's John Clune Participates in Washington DC Title IX Roundtable

HBC attorney John Clune was asked to participate in a two day roundtable meeting this week at the U.S. Department of Justice with distinguished members of the Department, the White House, the Department of Education, Universities, and other Title IX experts.  The outcome of this meeting will shape the agenda in addressing campus rape for the USDOJ in the remaining 15 months of the Obama administration.  Several HBC Title IX cases were noted as case examples by other members of the panel during the discussions.

HBC Welcomes Robert B. LaManna as a New Associate

HBC is very pleased to welcome Robert B. LaManna as an associate attorney.  Prior to joining the firm, Rob practiced with the national firm, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, LLP, in California.  Rob is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, where he founded and served as the first President of the Law and Mind Sciences Association.  He was also the Vice President of the Environmental Law Society and provided legal assistance to University of Chicago Business School startup companies participating in the New Venture Challenge.  Rob obtained a B.A. in International Relations from Pomona College, with secondary concentrations in Physics and Economics.  He also studied at Cambridge University in the Faculty of Law.  He was named a Pomona College Scholar and was awarded Gold Honors upon graduation.  Rob played varsity soccer at Pomona College and Cambridge University.  Rob is admitted to the bar in California.

Tom Scott Elected to Board of Directors of the Boulder Ballet

HBC attorney, Thomas Scott, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Boulder Ballet.  The Boulder Ballet provides world-premiere performances to an ever growing and eager audience.

Chris Ford Elected Chairperson of Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado

HBC partner Chris Ford was elected Chairperson of the Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado at the Foundation's May 2015 meeting.  The Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado promotes equal access to justice by raising funds to provide civil legal services for low-income people in the state of Colorado.  The Foundation, which was founded in 1981 as a nonprofit organization, is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees comprised primarily of lawyers from around the state.  Chris has been involved with the statewide Foundation and has co-chaired the local Boulder Campaign for the Foundation for the past eight years.

Chris Ford Raises More Than $6,000 For American Institute for Cancer Research

HBC partner Chris Ford ran the Virgin London Marathon on April 26, 2015, as a fundraiser for the American Institute for Cancer Research.  Chris raised over $6,000 and ran in honor of a good friend who passed away from melanoma seven years ago.  The American Institute for Cancer Research highlighted his run in its May 2015 newsletter.  You can read more about it here.

Susan Boothby Speaks on Estate Planning During Divorce

Boothby, J.D., LL.M, of counsel to the firm as of April 1, 2015.  Susan brings to HBC over 30 years of experience in complex federal gift and estate tax planning for individuals and closely-held businesses as well as trust and estate administration.  She is a frequent presenter and the author of numerous articles on trust and estate topics.  Susan also serves as a member of the Executive Council of the Trust and Estate Section of the Colorado Bar Association and is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC).
